The Linde Tanglewood Learning Institute opens its doors this summer to visitors in Lenox. After a multi-million dollar fundraising campaign, four new buildings will debut this June. They will be air-conditioned and heated, as a result there will be programs all year long! It is the BSO’s plan to provide a variety of cultural events, practice rooms and space for community organizations to hold events in the Linde Tanglewood Learning Institute’s spacious halls and rooms.
A series of eleven (11) events including four special weekends are planned for the inaugural season. Most of the events are tied to music scheduled for performances at Tanglewood during the event week. According to the BSO, programs will be targeted to the general public “with a degree of intellectual curiosity.” In addition, former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, and playwright Tom Stoppard will be featured. Artists from the summer’s BSO season will be speaking. Andre Previn will join Stoppard in a discussion of their new work, “Penelope,” premiering with soprano Renee Fleming and the Emerson String Quartet. Other presenters will include Andris Nelsons (BSO music director), Yo-Yo Ma, and cabaret artist Meow Meow. The Berkshire International Film Festival will host a series of Sunday evening films.
The new Institute also features a cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Visitors will have an opportunity to break bread with other cultural enthusiasts and musicians.
BSO artistic administrator and director of Tanglewood, Anthony Fogg, said, “We believe deeply in the power of music to make a difference in people’s lives. We need this now more than ever. Tanglewood Learning Institute gives us the tools to share this belief with those with open minds and hearts.”
Tanglewood and the Linde Tanglewood Learning Institute are a short distance from The Rookwood Inn.
